Visitors to the Barnert Temple Preschool, Kindergarten and Camp in Franklin Lakes will notice a sense of warmth and caring that translates into happy and confident students. At Barnert, children develop the social and emotional tools that will lead to their success as people - not just students - in the future.

As part of Barnert Temple’s supportive Reform Jewish community, their preschool is committed to helping students become critical thinkers and creative problem solvers, while providing a foundation for Jewish ethical and spiritual growth. Their long-term goal is to graduate children who become positive forces in our world: “mensches.”

Barnert believes that the smell of challah baking and matzo ball soup simmering, learning Hebrew, enjoying the Jewish holidays and the excitement of a Shabbat party instill a sense of pride in Jewish culture and heritage. Participating in Tikkun Olam-the repair of the world-is an important aspect of learning in their preschool. Barnert also offers an exciting, well respected religious school program for kindergarten through 12th grade.

Children at Barnert are taught self-regulation (often called executive functioning) skills that help them to regulate their social, emotional, and cognitive behaviors. Research shows that success in executive functioning at an early age has a stronger association with academic achievement than reading or math skills.

Barnert Temple Preschool offers programs for ages 15 months: The Little Sprouts, ages 2-3: The Rising Stars, ages 3-4: The Big Shots, ages 4-5 Fantasics Pre-K and ages 5-6: Kindergarten – each with their own unique and developmentally appropriate curriculum. Enrichment programs provide students the opportunity to participate in activities like cooking, soccer, dance and many other classes without having to leave the premises.

Barnert also offers a great class for children 12-24, months with their parents or caregivers, which provides a chance to meet other families and share the unique experience of raising a toddler.

The preschool is bright and filled with light. Most of the classrooms open directly to a large, multi-sensory playground. There is a beautiful, working garden located on the grounds. The property is surrounded by woods, offering varied opportunities for nature walks and outdoor fun. A large social hall provides indoor space for riding bikes and other activities during inclement weather.
