Study Shows More People Moved Out of NJ in 2016 Than Any Other State

United Van Lines’ Annual National Movers Study tracks customers’ state-to-state migration patterns over the past year. According to the 2016 United Van Lines study, the Northeast showed the largest moving deficit in 2016, with New Jersey at the top of the list with 63 percent outbound movers.

 

The top outbound states for 2016:

  • New Jersey
  • Illinois
  • New York
  • Connecticut
  • Kansas
  • Kentucky
  • West Virginia
  • Ohio
  • Utah
  • Pennsylvania

The 2016 United Van Lines study is based on household moves handled by United within the 48 contiguous states and Washington, D.C. The study ranks states based off the inbound and outbound percentages of total moves in each state.
