The Bergen County Players (BCP) wraps up its 2023-2024 mainstage season with the Tony Award-winning play “The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Night-Time.” This acclaimed production coincides with National Autism Acceptance Month.

“The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Night-Time” is a drama centered around Christopher Boone, a 15-year-old with a uniquely brilliant mind who happens to be on the autism spectrum. After being mistakenly accused of killing his neighbor’s dog, Christopher embarks on a quest to find the real perpetrator. His investigation unexpectedly steers him towards a profound revelation that will alter his life dramatically. This play delves into the complex dynamics between father and son, unveils the consequences of family secrets, and offers a deep dive into the world as perceived by an extraordinary young individual.

Performances are scheduled to begin on Saturday, April 20 and will continue through Saturday, May 11, at the Little Firehouse Theatre, 298 Kinderkamack Road in Oradell. Showtimes are Fridays and Saturdays at 8:00 pm, and Sundays at 2:00 pm.

Tickets can be purchased online at www.bcplayers.org, by phone at 201-261-4200, or in person at the box office located at 298 Kinderkamack Road, Oradell during normal business hours. Note: The play includes adult themes and explicit language.

Celebrate the Earth at the Ridgefield Park Environmental Commission’s Every Day is Earth Day event! Bring the family out for a fun-filled day of activities including fishing lessons with the Hudson River Fishermen’s Association, boat rides with Hackensack Riverkeeper (weather permitting), music, live animals, science shows, educational booths, archery, face painting, food and more! This event is free, open to the public, and is held rain or shine.

Victorian Afternoon Tea at the Hermitage in Ho-Ho-Kus: Saturday, May 11, 1:00 pm-4:00 pm

Step back in time and indulge in a delightful Victorian Tea at the historic John Rosencrantz House. Enjoy traditional tea sandwiches, scones, and desserts while sipping tea and learning about the history of formal tea parties, games, and traditions. Be sure to don your finest hat for the occasion! The event will also feature a guided walk to the Hermitage to discover the story of “The Hermitage Tea Room,” operated from 1917 to 1931. Explore the gardens with master gardeners and tour the Hermitage to learn about its long-standing residents, Theodosia Provost (who married Aaron Burr in the Hermitage in 1782) and the Rosencrantz family.

Enjoy a full day of activities, including homestead and garden tours, a perennial plant and herb sale, children’s activities, and costumed reenactors. The Nyack Famous Street Fair really is famous and attracts huge crowds for the spring, summer and fall seasons! The Fair takes place in the heart of historic Nyack in Rockland County, New York, about 15 miles from Bergen County, and features over 300 exhibitors showcasing their wares along downtown Main Street, Broadway, and Cedar Street. You’ll find a wide variety of arts & crafts, retail items, home décor, unique gifts, and more!

There will also be delicious festival foods, music at the gazebo on Main Stjreet, and Nyack’s outdoor restaurants and cafes will be open featuring fair specials. Be sure to check out Nyack’s many boutiques and shops lining downtown too!

Pinkster Celebration at Historic New Bridge Landing in River Edge: Sunday, May 19, 1:00 pm-5:00 pm

Join the Bergen County Historical Society to celebrate Pinkster, a traditional Jersey Dutch festival. The Tricorne Dance Ensemble will perform a series of 18th-century dances,

including maypole dances at 1:30 pm and 3:30 pm, with live music from Ridley and Anne Enslow on fiddle and dulcimer. At 2:30 pm, children are invited to dance around the maypole with the dancers.

Visit the historic 1752 Steuben House, where you can view Revolutionary War artifacts and watch Beth Harpell demonstrate the art of lacemaking. Visit the Westervelt-Thomas Barn for a broom-making demo, and check out the blacksmith at work. In the out-kitchen, watch interpreters dye eggs with vegetable dyes and prepare 18th-century recipes over an open hearth.

Refreshments like donuts and lemonade will be available for purchase, and the gift shop will be open. Families can enjoy colonial games, a take-home craft, and the society’s QR code-based scavenger hunt. Don’t miss this fun-filled day of history, dance, and hands-on activities!

Crafts in the Park in Westwood: Sunday, June 2, 10:00 am-5:00 pm

Come out for a great day of shopping at the Crafts in the Park Show at picturesque Veterans Park in Westwood. The Show features over 120 exhibitors from three states, featuring a wide variety of arts and crafts.

Some items you’ll find at the show include folk art, jewelry, pottery, ceramic sculpture, fairy houses, stained and recycled glass, apparel, chainsaw carvings, decoupage, carpet bags, watercolors, paper tole, florals, tie dye, mandala art, photography, quilts, charcuterie boards, pencil drawings, birdhouses, quilted denim jackets, wood planters, soaps, candles, wood puzzles, sports clocks, unique wood products, olive oils, dog treats, hooded towels, wood signs, resin and metal, shell art, crochet hanging planters, jeweled decorated flatware, one of a kind wall art, lighted bottles, and so much more!
