City Green has recently opened its two main farm stands for the season. The Clifton Market at the City Green Farm Eco-Center is located at 171 Grove Street, Clifton, New Jersey and is open every Friday from 10:00 am-2:00 pm. The Paterson market at the Passaic County Courthouse Plaza is located at 77 Hamilton Street, Paterson and is open every Tuesday from 10:00 am-2:00 pm.

The farm stands run through October and feature a variety of organically produced vegetables including tomatoes, zucchini, yellow squash, cucumbers, carrots, greens, and herbs, as well as honey, eggs, and fruit.

Farm-Fresh Food

City Green Farm Stand and Mobile Market program provides increased access to farm-fresh food with the goal of ensuring that good food is available to all members of the community. Through the Double Value Coupon program, federal food beneficiaries can purchase healthy food grown by City Green and other local farms for half the regular price.

Live Music, Poetry, Demonstrations, Free Blood Pressure Screenings

The Paterson farm stand is also part of a larger event happening at Courthouse Plaza on Tuesdays: there will be live music and poetry performances, food demonstrations by SNAP-Ed, concessions, and free blood pressure screenings by the Department of Health.

Operated by Local Youth

The farm stands are operated by local youth in City Green’s Growing Strong program, which provides paid summer employment to high school students from Paterson and Clifton. City Green also incorporates a youth development program that ensures college and career readiness. By working in this urban farming and market organization, these interns engage with their community and benefit from mentor interaction and learning to work with their peers.

“City Green’s farm stands are the very heart of the organization. They are the nexus between the organic produce grown at the farms, the local communities City Green aims to serve, and the internship programs that employ local youth, “ explained Jennifer Papa, Executive Director of City Green. “The farm stands are not only a chance to purchase nutritious vegetables grown in the local area, but a chance to learn more about the organization and its impact on the community through interactions with the youth who staff the farm stands.” “By shopping at City Green farm stands, customers gain an appreciation for local agriculture in their own community, support the local food movement, and foster a personal connection to the environment."
