Caroline Manzo Appearance at Bergen County Event: Buffie, the one-eared senior Pit Bull/Bulldog mix who captured the nation’s heart with her Petplan pet insurance Tournament of Tails win earlier this month, will be accepting the $5,000 first-place prize on Monday, April 23, 2018 at 11:30 am at the Ramapo-Bergen Animal Refuge (RBARI) in Oakland, New Jersey. Buffie will be joined at the ceremony by reality TV star Caroline Manzo, who was one of Buffie’s biggest supporters.
Petplan’s Tournament of Tails is an annual competition that plays off the seasonal popularity of the college basketball tournament. In addition to bringing awareness to animal rescues and shelters all across the nation, Tournament of Tails raises over $11,000 for participants.
This year, Buffie clawed her way to first place, overcoming 31 competing shelter pets to nab the top spot. Manzo helped RBARI with a number of social media posts encouraging followers to vote.
RBARI will be paying it forward, putting their prize money toward the Betty Lou Medical Fund, an emergency fund that allows them to take on hardship cases and nurse sick pets back to health. Buffie was a beneficiary of the Betty Lou Medical Fund when she arrived at RBARI, needing emergency surgery to fix an ear issue that likely would have had her euthanized at other shelters.
