City Green Inc., with its new office at Schultheis Farm on Grove Street in Clifton, New Jersey has erected a sign on their site to thank local businesses for their generous donations of goods and services during its recent “Extreme Farmhouse Makeover” project of the house.
Over the course of the past six months, the non-profit community garden and educational programming organization has received donations and reduced price goods and services from local and regional companies in its efforts to update and revitalize the farmhouse at the five-acre Schultheis Farm. The leased property was purchased and preserved as open space by the City of Clifton with support from Passaic County Open Space and the New Jersey Department of Environmental Protection’s Green Acres Program.
The following companies have donated goods and services to the transformation of the 1930s-era farmhouse. From the rooftop, CertainTeed in Columbia, NJ donated all of the shingles and roofing materials for the project. FM Home Improvements of Denville installed the roof at a reduced price. Consolidated Companies of Clifton donated “Trex” decking materials for the rebuild of the front porch and for the construction of the ADA ramp, and Garfield Lumber of Garfield provided lumber for the framing front porch. DK Painting Company located in Linden cleaned and painted the three-story house from white to green. Dubnoff Paints of Clifton provided all of paint for both the interior and the exterior paint for a complete color transformation. RENO Appliance of Fairfield donated a refrigerator, microwave, range and dishwasher, all of which will be used in the soon to come commercial kitchen. Ferguson, a Wolseley Company of Oaks, PA donated plumbing fixtures for the updated bathroom. To update the farmhouse plumbing and heating system, FJ Hess & Sons, Swiftwater, PA accomplished a modern-day miracle at a great price. Feldman Electric of Paterson donated new electrical fixtures to repair the very damaged and unsafe electrical system of the house, and Keno Electric of Clifton provided expert service in bringing the electrical capacity to today’s standards at a reduced price. Liz Claiborne, NY, sent over a volunteer group that painted the organization’s upstairs offices. Mars International of Clifton donated a commercial grade copier and Smith Carriers of Fairfield transported it. Lastly, Steven Lataro, Architect provided architectural services with a vision toward the future. “City Green is extremely grateful to all those individuals and businesses that have supported this project that will further their goal of creating an educational environmental center in the heart of Clifton and serving the greater community,” said Jennifer Papa, Executive Director of City Green, Inc. “Their support of this project is evidence of their dedication to their community and the people that they serve in their business”.
