The news is full of reports about the “novel” Coronavirus (2019-nCoV) which is a new strain of coronavirus that has not been previously identified in humans. The new, or “novel” coronavirus, had not been previously detected before the outbreak was reported in Wuhan, China in December 2019. The symptoms are similar to the flu and rarely fatal — older people and those with pre-existing medical conditions such as diabetes or heart disease are more vulnerable.

In reality, as of February 1, 2020, there is not a single case of novel Coronavirus in New Jersey. Tenafly Pediatrics will be monitoring the situation and will keep patients informed of changes. Presently, the flu is a more relevant issue and Tenafly Pediatrics continues to encourage its patients to receive the flu shot if you have not already immunized your child this year.
