Things to do in Bergen County!
The Bergen County Players will open its first mainstage production of 2024 with a comedic retelling of Jane Austen’s romantic tale Pride and Prejudice, presenting a unique adaptation of the classic novel written over two centuries ago.
This modern take diverges from the traditional setting by incorporating elements like discos and characters donning high tops, while also exploring multiple gender roles. Director Carol Fisher emphasizes that this version remains faithful to the original novel’s essence, focusing on its themes of sexuality and humor. Fisher aims to make the audience both laugh and fall in love with this timeless story, just as they did with the original. The plot centers around Elizabeth Bennet, a sharp and self-reliant character indifferent to marriage, unlike her sisters and eager mother. However, the arrival of the mysterious Mr. Darcy could change her perspective. Set against a backdrop of regency era norms and societal challenges, Elizabeth and Mr. Darcy must confront their own pride and prejudices to discover true happiness.
