The Harrington Park Historical Society is delighted to welcome back Mario Medici, Historian, Lecturer, and Owner of Medici Tours on October 7, 2024 at 7:30 P.M.  The meeting is at the Library, 10 Herring Street, in Harrington Park.  Mr. Medici’s talk is entitled “A History of Greenwich Village; 400 years of Tragedy, Bohemians, and the Arts.”

There is more to Greenwich Village than you might think. Greenwich Village is known as the center of the counter-culture movement of the 1960s. That bohemian feel has been transformed as it’s now an expensive and trendy neighborhood to live but it still retains some of its historical roots.  Encompassing the West Village neighborhood, Washington Square Park, and the area around New York University, with a 100-block historic district established in 1969, New York City’s Greenwich Village is perhaps best known for its historic architecture, a variety of intimate cafés and restaurants, and a nice place to visit. Visiting The Village is like taking a vacation to a super cool place without actually leaving the city. It is undeniably an area like no other place in the city and the country!

Mario Medici, a retired Information Technology executive who has traveled the world, is New York City born and raised. He completed his undergraduate degree at Bernard Baruch College (CUNY) and his graduate degree at Long Island University. He is a licensed New York City tour guide, a passionate history enthusiast, and nurtures his curiosity about all things. In his presentations, he takes on New York City’s interesting history as well as other subject matter. Through a combination of diligent research, computer skills and love for amateur photography, Mario presents the story combining video and music, as well as elements of art, architecture and notable individuals, making each lecture interesting and fast-moving.

Mario currently lectures at Bergen Community College’s Institute for Learning in Retirement (ILR) and has a growing list of over 80 venues that includes schools, community organizations, and libraries.

The meeting is free and open to the public.  There will be a Q&A after the lecture, and a light reception.  For more information about the Society, please call Gerri Gibney at 201 768-2615.  Or visit the Society website; harringtonparkhistoricalsociety.com.
