Things to do in Bergen County!
Celebrate spring with the Bergen County Historical Society at Pinkster, a traditional Jersey Dutch festival. Join the Tricorne Dance Ensemble, as they perform a series of 18th-century dances, including maypole dances at 1:30 pm and 3:30 pm, with live music from Ridley and Anne Enslow on fiddle and dulcimer. At 2:30 pm, children are invited to dance around the maypole with the dancers.
Explore the historic 1752 Steuben House, where you can view Revolutionary War artifacts and watch Beth Harpell demonstrate the art of lacemaking. Visit the Westervelt-Thomas Barn for a broom-making demo, and check out the blacksmith at work. In the out-kitchen, watch interpreters dye eggs with vegetable dyes and prepare 18th-century recipes over an open hearth.
Refreshments like donuts and lemonade will be available for purchase, and the gift shop will be open. Families can enjoy colonial games, a take-home craft, and the society’s QR code-based scavenger hunt. Don’t miss this fun-filled day of history, dance, and hands-on activities!
