National Recovery Month is an observance held every September to educate the public about substance use treatment and mental health services that can enable those with a mental and/or substance use disorder to live healthier, more rewarding lives. This annual nationwide observance also reinforces the message that behavioral health is essential to overall health, prevention works, treatment is effective, and people can and do recover.
Each September, prevention, treatment, and recovery programs and facilities around the country celebrate Recovery Month by sharing progress and success made by those in recovery with neighbors, friends, and colleagues. This helps to increase awareness and foster a greater understanding of mental and substance use disorders.
The 2022 National Recovery Month theme is “Every Person. Every Family. Every Community.” and this year’s observance will work to promote and support new evidence-based treatment and recovery practices, the emergence of a ssolidand proud recovery community, and the dedication of service providers and community members across the nation who make recovery in all its forms possible.
