Where are the best places to live in Bergen County? HomeSnacks has released its 2018 list of the Best Places to Live in New Jersey and no less than four Bergen County towns have made the top 10, with Woodcliff Lake coming in the highest at number 2 overall.

Top 10 Best Places to Live in New Jersey

#1-North Caldwell (Essex County)
#2-Woodcliff Lake (Bergen County)
#3-Haddonfield (Camden County)
#4-Oradell (Bergen County)
#5-Glen Rock (Bergen County)
#6-Demarest (Bergen County)
#7-Fair Haven (Monmouth County)
#8-New Providence (Union County)
#9-Westfield (Union County)
#10-Chatham (Morris County)

To create its Best Places to Live in New Jersey ranking, HomeSnacks broke places to live into three tiers:

  • Cities — Populations over 5,000
  • Towns — Populations between 1,000 and 5,000
  • Small Towns — Populations below 1,000

This left them with 177 cities, 209 towns, and 81 small towns.

HomeSnacks then ranked each place in New Jersey across a number of criteria from one to 177, with one being the best.

They then took the average rank across all criteria, with the city posting the lowest overall score being crowned the winner of the title “Best Place To Live In New Jersey”.

The criteria HomeSnacks looked at were:

Median Income
Population Density (Higher better)
Unemployment Rate
Commute Time
Crime
Education Levels
Health Insurance Coverage
Poverty rates
Sources of criteria include the New Census Data and FBI Crime Data.
